Filters are not oracles

Students often arrive wanting a favourite oscillator. We redirect the conversation to filters: tools that reduce how often you act, not tools that claim to know the next tick.

A long-period average, a higher-timeframe swing, or a simple requirement that both daily and weekly structure agree will cut a large number of contradictory trades. That is the whole job of a filter.

If an indicator is being used to narrate the news, it has left the method we teach. The studio is a room for rules that can be checked on a printed chart after class.
